CARLISLE® CM Europe – Europe’s leading manufacturer of EPDM waterproofing membranes

We essentially apply the same principle to both our interpersonal relationships and our RESITRIX® waterproofing membranes: on the one hand, close connections provide a feeling of security, and on the other, you need enough flexibility to overcome the challenges of everyday life. At CARLISLE® CM Europe, we always keep both these values in mind. Using this recipe for success, we have become Europe’s leading specialist for EPDM waterproofing systems.

Cooperation on a level footing between our individual departments and our trading partners, contractors and architects guarantees smooth processes. If the connections are right, everything fits together. Because ideas and information flow faster, energy losses are minimised and the overall system becomes more stable.

It’s not just products that make a company successful. Success also depends on the team – on the people literally behind the products. We are united by our passion for our work and our values. And our customers notice this too.

The history of RESITRIX® EPDM waterproofing membranes

From rubber shoes to high-tech membranes: as Europe’s leading manufacturer of EPDM membranes, we can look back on a long-standing tradition.

Our roots reach back to the year 1856, when it all started with the manufacture of simple rubber shoes for the Hamburg market. A few spin-offs, name changes and 156 years later, PHOENIX Dichtungstechnik GmbH (PDT) merged to become the CARLISLE® CM Europe Group.

1856

1856

Back in 1856, PHOENIX AG – a former giant in the field of high-quality, technical rubber products – starts its rubber production operations in Hamburg to manufacture rubber boots and vulcanised rubber. In its 150-year corporate history, PHOENIX has an unprecedented influence over the development of this branch of industry.

1970s

1970s

The Roof Waterproofing Department is a key part of the company and, in the 1970s, it introduces the product “Flamtrix”, among other things. This is an EPDM roofing membrane with PE fleece which is still welded with naked flames.

1982

1982

The company is constantly researching, further developing and remaking – always with a view to developing the perfect waterproofing membrane for all applications and almost infinite potential uses. This is how the product development pioneers come across an EPDM welded membrane with glass fleece and ultimately use it to develop a brand-new combination of materials including an integrated glass fabric and manage to set new benchmarks and standards. A single-layer membrane that perfectly combines the benefits of bitumen installation with the excellent benefits of EPDM and that can be quickly, easily and safely welded using hot air without any need for naked flames: RESITRIX® is born!

2001

2001

PHOENIX Dichtungstechnik GmbH (PDT), which manufactures profiles and rubberised fabrics as well as roof waterproofing, is founded within the PHOENIX AG Group.

2004

2004

PHOENIX AG is bought by Continental AG and merged with ContiTech AG in 2007.

2008

2008

In 2008, PHOENIX Dichtungstechnik GmbH (Roof Waterproofing Division) is spun off from the Continental Group through a management buy-out, with a view to successfully and independently continuing the rich traditional history of manufacturing high-tech elastomer products at the German sites in Hamburg and Waltershausen. The managing partners Jürgen Werner and Gregor Ellegast have already had close ties with the company for many years and are now not only successfully continuing the work of the PDT Group (PHOENIX Dichtungstechnik GmbH) in their new independent venture; they are also developing new prospects and a promising strategy which further establishes the PDT Group as a leading manufacturer of unique premium products – primarily RESITRIX® – on the international stage.

2011

2011

With effect from summer 2011, the PDT Group is part of the globally active CARLISLE® Companies Inc. and belongs to the Construction Materials (CM) Division. Being part of the CARLISLE® Group, the PDT Group has access to additional resources which drive forward the strong development of RESITRIX® around the world. RESITRIX® therefore becomes the strongest-growing brand in the flat roof sector in 2011.

2012

2012

The year 2012 has a no less successful start, and the next step to further expand the CARLISLE® Group’s European business follows in the spring: the purchase and takeover of HERTALAN Rubber Products B.V, a producer of EPDM roof and façade products. To also document the affiliation to the multinational CARLISLE® Group in its company name, PHOENIX Dichtungstechnik finally starts trading under the new name CARLISLE® Construction Materials GmbH with effect from September 2012. A new group of EPDM specialists in Europe, created following the takeover, also starts working together under the name CARLISLE® CM Europe with effect from September 2012. The operational activities of the following companies also fall under the auspices of the CARLISLE® CM Europe Group: CARLISLE® Construction Materials GmbH (formerly PHOENIX Dichtungstechnik GmbH) CARLISLE® Construction Materials B.V. (formerly HERTALAN Rubber Products B.V.) CARLISLE® Construction Materials Ltd. (formerly PDT Sealing Systems and HERTALAN Ltd.) CARLISLE® Hardcast Europe B.V.
