Flat roof waterproofing with RESITRIX® EPDM roofing membranes

Reliable roof waterproofing for all flat roof systems

Flat roofs are practical, affordable and are celebrating an architectural comeback. But the flat roof is one of a building’s most highly loaded components, and waterproofing it is particularly challenging. To reliably overcome this challenge, we use the one-of-a-kind elastomer material EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber). Thanks to this EPDM layer, RESITRIX® is resistant to ozone, UV radiation and infrared radiation, and is also capable of permanently withstanding the most extreme weather conditions, any temperature fluctuations and a high degree of tensile stress.

Unlike conventional systems which age quickly, RESITRIX® has been acknowledged as having a service life of more than 50 years by the South German Plastics Centre (SKZ). Their additional polymer bitumen layer on the underside means that RESITRIX® EPDM membranes are particularly robust and can be laid in an extremely wide range of ways on almost all substrates.
We are more than happy to advise you with regard to choosing the right waterproofing solution and during the planning and implementation process.

With more than 35 years of experience and many millions of square metres successfully laid, RESITRIX® has impressively demonstrated both its flexibility and the multitude of ways a flat roof can be perfectly waterproofed in the most diverse climate zones around the world.

Industrial halls with RESITRIX®

The flat roof has become the most cost-efficient roof shape in almost all areas of industrial and plant construction.
Particularly in the sensitive area of industry, maximum safety in terms of complete fire protection is crucial. This includes the use of materials with a reduced fire load according to the Industrial Building Directive and DIN 18234 for large flat roofs, resistance to flying sparks and resistance to radiating heat, as well as the completely safe installation of the selected roof waterproofing solutions – with no fire on the roof.

The combination of ALUTRIX® FR, a vapour barrier membrane with a reduced fire load, and RESITRIX® proves to be particularly beneficial in this regard. Since just hot air, and no naked flames, is needed to install RESITRIX®, the risk of fire on the roof is eliminated.

As all RESITRIX® variants have a proven and certified service life of more than 50 years, not only is a long project life guaranteed, but the initial investment in the products demonstrably pays off, thus ensuring the property’s economic efficiency in the long term.

At the same time, the low weight of the single-layer RESITRIX® waterproofing solutions and their high level of chemical resistance comply with the property-related requirements profile of waterproofing industrial buildings with consistently high-performance and reliable products.

Public buildings

Public buildings such as museums or libraries are sometimes home to priceless products and irreplaceable treasures which require permanent protection. Scrimping on the roof waterproofing solution would be a false economy in this situation. Water penetration into the building interior as a result of the roof waterproofing failing could quickly ruin a unique painting or cause serious damage by rendering a central computer system inoperative.

Thanks to its material properties, RESITRIX® is basically resistant to ageing, and throughout its service life on the roof RESITRIX® does not experience any measurable changes and does not suffer any reductions with regard to its weight, thickness, tensile strength or durability.
Additionally, the RESITRIX® laying variants – and the membrane substances themselves – are completely safe from an ecological standpoint, so RESITRIX® can also meet the most important responsible building requirement of the 21st century: the creation of a sustainable link between ecology and economics.

Residential construction

Nowadays, flat roofs are absolutely on-trend – and justifiably so – even in private residential construction. No other roof shape is as versatile as the flat roof, and no other roof shape offers such a vast range of design possibilities.

The roof can easily be used as a roof garden or a roof terrace – and not only does this increase the usable surface area, it also creates recreational areas and retreats and ultimately increases the value of the property as a whole.
The hassle of dealing with roof pitches that take up valuable space and significantly reduce the size of the living space are just as much a thing of the past as special windows. Additional skylights come as standard and can be directly integrated into the flat roof with ease.
Flat roofs have thus deservedly become an integral part of contemporary architecture and a feature of numerous excellent architect-designed buildings both within Germany and abroad.

Flat roofs represent contemporary architecture for modern and even futuristic buildings and cut an impressive figure with clear lines and shapes.

But construction is a matter of trust – and people building today are building for life. Often, construction costs are miscalculated and money is saved on one of the most important parts of the building, which will ultimately protect the entire property. We are, of course, referring to the roof. But if you scrimp on high-quality roofing membranes, it will only take a few years for the roof to start leaking, which often makes refurbishment inevitable. Considerable follow-up costs can be expected if leaks affect the entire roof structure or if mould has already started to form.

In contrast, RESITRIX® has a certified service life of more than 50 years according to a study conducted by the South German Plastics Centre (SKZ). RESITRIX® is also suitable for permanently waterproofing balconies and garages.

Patios and balconies

Waterproofing in the smallest of spaces goes hand-in-hand with plenty of problems: lots of little details, complex interfaces, different load levels due to different wearing surfaces – but this is an area where RESITRIX® comes into its own.

The products do not have a special seam joining edge, which means that seams can be joined anywhere on the membrane. This keeps material waste to a minimum – which is a clear benefit if there are a large number of joints and junctions.
No additional measures are needed in the T-joint area due to the bitumen flow on the underside of the products.
